RapidRed worked with Spheric to design and deliver custom courseware to advance core Ruby skills and Rails techniques at their rapidly emerging consulting practice. Says CEO Dan Martell, "Bruce’s (RapidRed) class was amazing, the interactive approach to teaching made complex theory come together in minutes!”
The three days of Ruby and Rails development techniques focused heavily on basic Ruby skills and testing. The innovative teaching techniques included about 50% lab work and 50% live instruction, including group coding of applications. The students often worked together to role play. David John commented on the effectiveness of the role playing:
The role-playing exercises are great. Why? It gets students away from the computer momentarily, and aids in the conceptualization process through thought and interaction with peers rather then in the strict context of code. In other words, its fun.
Instructor Bonnie Ryan mentioned the energy and enthusiasm of the class:
“Thanks again for a very enjoyable session. I appreciated your energy and enthusiasm for RoR, and you taught it very well.”
Spheric and RapidRed are already planning followup classes, and potentially another charity workshop in Moncton.
